The weather has been so nice! We've been going on as many field trips as possible. Last week, we went to the Texas Forestry Museum where we learned lots of history about East Texas and how the forest harvesting efforts got started. I was surprised at how interested our young group of kids were at all the details our tour guide was sharing.
One other thing that surprised me was how much science they would go into to explain how trees are used. I guess I was in "museum" mode and not expecting the tour guide to start explaining centrifugal forces. The nerds that we are, Jim and I were giggling in a corner!
Some of the kid's daddies work at paper mills so they were really interested in learning about what they do to make paper out of trees. I am a little embarrassed to admit I knew so little about this process and I went to college to learn this kind of science. It was really interesting!
On another WOODS related subject, we have been reading the Little House collection by Laura Ingalls and our girls have developed an obsession over all things "back in the day". Jim and I think it's funny! We've used their interest to teach them how things worked prior to all the technology we live with now. I am not an anti-technology person but I certainly appreciate so much of this old time lifestyle.
We spent a Saturday in Woodville (get it? WOODville :) Seriously, 2 years it took me to put 2 and 2 together! Anyway, they have a cute little old town they use as part of their Harvest Festival and the girls had a ball exploring it all and learning about "back in the day".
