100th Day of School

We celebrated 100 days of school a little while back.  We had a 100th day of school party with lots of fun games.  The kiddos had a good time.  Here are some pictures:

The very first order of business was to cast their vote for the bag of jelly beans which they thought had 100 pieces inside.

It was tricky because the other two had 90 and 110 respectively.  The winner took the bag of 100 jelly beans home.

Next, the kids made a trail mix of 100 snack foods.  We sent them one by one to do this because we knew it would take them a little while to count... plus have you ever tried counting high numbers while another person is also counting aloud, ha! :)

They each took their custom made snack over to the scales so we could compare the weights of each of their baggies and learn how "100" can weigh different amounts depending on what item it is made of.

We used both a digital scale and a balance and we talked about units of weight.

While at the scales, we also weighed 100 cups, 100 straws, 100 rubber bands and 100 cards.

Then we made a chart of our findings...  forgot to take a picture of the finished chart taped on the wall.

By this time we were all hungry so the kids got to work making our 100 pizza.

I have to stay it turned out good!  It was touch and go there for a minute...

Here's a group picture before digging in...

and here's dessert...

For art we had the kids finger paint gum balls inside gumball machines.  They had to paint exactly 100.

It wasn't too much of a hit with the boys but the girls loved it.

Caden enjoyed writing on the 100th day of school newspaper which had neat questions like "what would you do with $100?"  or "draw a picture of how you think you'll look at 100 years old".

It's safe to say the hit of the day was the WHAT CAN YOU BUILD WITH 100 activity.  We gave them packing peanuts, straws,  scissors and painter's tape and asked them to build anything they wanted but it had to have exactly 100 pieces to it.  We had the girls in one team and the boys in another.

Here are the boys in action...

and here are the girls...

We had one final activity... making a tower/pyramid of 100 mini cups but we ran out of time before we got to it... maybe next time.

ONE HUNDRED had never been so fun! :)  Thanks for checking us out.
