On our WATER unit, we learned that Jesus gives our spirit living water to drink.
We used our handy dandy felt board to stage two Bible stories centered around water. The first was the story of Jesus walking on water which our kids love.
Can you see the smile on her face as she handles Jesus? Ha!

Gotta love Peter!
The 2nd one was the story of Isaac and the wells of water. We talked about how Isaac chose to be a peacemaker even when faced with really frustrating circumstances. We've used the word "peacemaker" many times since especially in the context of sibling arguments ("Who's going to choose to be like Isaac and be a peacemaker?". Hey, when all else fails... ;)
For our science work we talked about water not having its own shape but instead it taking the shape of any container it's in. To see this we put dye drops in some water and transferred it from container to container. We used play-doh toys with fun shapes to see the water take their shape.
Getting to play with water is always a highlight
We also talked about how some things dissolve in water and some others do not. We had fun experimenting with flour, corn meal, coffee and brown sugar.
For our final science project we got to play God by making it rain inside a mason jar. This is achieved by putting very hot water inside the jar, turning the lid up and placing ice on top. After a while the water steam rises then condenses as it hits the cold lid and comes back down making it look like it's raining. Super fun!! If you try this and it doesn't happen right away, try playing around with different temperatures of water.

For our craft, we decided to make the back splash (the water) for the ocean scene we would be working on the following week on our Oo-Octopus unit. We used bubble wrap paper and blue paint.
I will not be able to post on our Octopus lesson so I'll give you a peak into the final product.
For part of our Handwriting lesson, we used Daddy's shaving cream on the table and also inside a ziplot baggie to form letters with our fingers.
For our language arts studies, we read the classic Make way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey and The Story about Ping by Marjorie Flack and Kurt Wiese. The story about Ping takes place in China so we got to play with our globe and see where China is located. Here is Lucy with her drawing of Ping.
We finished up the week strong with field trip to the Texas Fire Museum where we learned about fire safety as well as the different devices that have been used through the years to fight fires with water. Here's a pose in front of the largest water hydrant in our state.
formerly the largest water hydrant in the world measuring at 24 ft. before South Carolina decided to build a 39ft one in their state :)
All in all a great week of learning about water. Thanks for stopping by :)
