Kk - Kangaroos

This week we learned about Kangaroos.  We learned that just like kangaroos keep their babies safe in their little pouches, we are safe in God

We have a plethora of Bible stories showing us how God has kept His people safe but I knew the kids would especially enjoy the story of Daniel in the lions den.

I was excited to share with them how committed Daniel was to prayer.  We are working on memorizing the Lord's prayer so this all tied things together real well for us.

We have really enjoyed our Bible felt boards this year.  It brings bible stories alive to the kids and it helps them think through the details of the story as they are looking for pieces to stage them.  This helps them remember them well later on.

We made some cool crafts and read some neat books but I better cut to the chase and show you the highlight of our week.  We got to take the kids to meet some baby kangaroos!  Total craziness!

A guy Jim works with raises kangaroos in his land and even keeps the babies inside his home until they are ready to go outside.  We didn't tell them where they were going.  It was a surprise which explains their faces of shock below.

They didn't know what to do with themselves.  I could just see their little heads thinking "Wow, Mom, so this stuff you teach us in school is for real!" :)  and hopefully thinking too... "God does keep us safe!"

They gathered their composure and their excitement just in time to go outside and meet the Momma and Daddy kangaroos, the tallest of which was close to 7 ft and reaching hopping speeds of 35 miles per hour.  Wowza!

They both had seen kangaroos plenty of times before in a zoo setting but it was a totally different experience to meet them like this.  It was the perfect ending to a great week of learning :)
