We survived and enjoyed our first week of homeschooling. We are doing 4-day weeks so we can have Fridays open for whatever comes up. I can already tell we will be enjoying this schedule. 4 days is PLENTY of school for a kindergartener and her Momma. I can not imagine how other 5 year- old children go to school from 7 to 3pm every day. Tires me just to think about it!
I liked the routines we started this week. Started bright and early when the kids were energetic and excited, took tons of breaks, broke the days off with trips out of the house, had quiet/nap times. The only thing that didn't go as I expected was the lack of time to do housework. I am not sure how that gets done. It's not that I am doing school around the clock and have no time to do the dishes and laundry; the thing is the mental energy required to prepare and do all the school stuff has left me wiped. Perhaps, that will get easier with time.
Here is my favorite picture of the week. It makes me a little emotional to think that had we not decided to homeschool, Jenna would have her big sister around during the day for only a few more days. Lucy is the light of her life right now. I am so blessed to be able to buy them some more time together at this stage of their lives.
