December 2010 Homeschool Update

Life is about to get busy for us so I wanted to come in here and document the end of your first full semester of homeschooling before we take a break to enjoy Christmas and a new baby in our family.

By December 2010 (age 4 1/2) Lucy you have these new skills:
- You can read beginner reader books.  The Bob books are your favorite.  You take them everywhere, you read them to anybody that will listen to you.
- You can count to 50 and probably more but that's how far we've gotten on our 100 chart so I know with certainty you get at least that high.
- You know the sequence of the months as well as the month for each of your family members' birthday.
- You know the sequence of the week days and what days you do what (church, dance, etc.)
- You know several recipes by heart such as the one for oatmeal which has about 7 ingredients.
- You are very good at memorizing.  We have done about 15 MFW lessons and you know all the words to remember for each.  You also know several Christian songs... your favorite right now is "Give Thanks".
- Your drawings skills have improved greatly.  You can draw several animals, your family, flowers, our house, a party, hearts, all other geometrical shapes.
- Your handwriting is something to talk about... seriously good for your age (I think).  You can write the names of everyone in our family as well as many others.  Writing letters to people is one of your favorite things to do.
- You are very interested in nature and will ask questions about things you see.  The other day we learned how to milk a goat (via youtube) and you are made some great connections between milk-producing animals, the milk that comes from mommy and the purpose of farm animals in our diet.
- You are starting to understand the gospel of Jesus a little better every week.  You ask questions constantly and it seems we are sharing about Jesus every hour of the day if not more often.  It gives us great joy but it's also a little frustrating at times.  We are praying you GET it in His time.

More to come...
